  44. Q:        And miss the next scene of this wonderful charade?  Never.
  45.         It wounds me that you would ask this, Jean-Luc.  I always
  46.         took you for a man with savoir-faire.  It does not behoove
  47.         you to turn out a guest.

  49. Riker:        "Guest" implies you were invited.  By whom?
  50.  
  51. Q:        Now that would be telling.  Now if you'll excuse me...

  53. [Bright flashes of light.  A bag of pop-corn and a chaise longue appear.
  54.  Another flash of light and Q is now lying on the chaise-longue.]

  56. Q:        I believe we are about to witness the next act.

  58. [Opening sequence music.]

  60. Picard (VO):    Space, the final frontier.  These are the voyages of the
  61.         starship Enterprise.  Its on-going mission; to explore
  62.         strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new
  63.         civilisations, to bodly go where no-one has gone before.

  71. Picard (VO):    Captain's Log, Stardate 47028 point 3.  After having been
  72.         transported into another... dimension... by Q, we find
  73.         ourselves trapped in the middle of what might well be a
  74.         stellar war.  We can only hope that at least one side of
  75.         this conflict will hail us before attacking.
  76.  
  77. [Int. shot, Enterprise Bridge.]
  78.  
  79. Picard:        My name is Jean-Luc Picard, Captain of the USS Enterprise,
  80.         from the United Federation of Planets.  We have come in
  81.         peace.  Please identify yourself.
  82.  
  83. [Int. shot, Enterprise Bridge, Main Viewer.  Stars and ships for a while,
  84.  then the screen blinks and a man appears on the screen.  He is relatively
  85.  young, with blue hair and glasses.  He is sitting.]
  86.  
  87. Max:        I am Commander Maximillian Sterling, Captain of the UES
  88.         Mordred, Robotech Expeditionary Force.  May I ask your
  89.         planet of origin please?
  90.  
  91. Picard:        This ship was built at Utopia Planetia, Mars.  The crew
  92.         complement is made of several different races.
  93.  
  94. Max:        There is no base called Utopia Planetia on Mars, Captain
  95.         Picard.
  96.  
  97. Data:        Captain, if I may?
  98.  
  99. Picard:        Please.
  100.  
  101. Data:        Commander Sterling.  I am Lieutenant Commander Data, a
  102.         positronic android.
  103.  
  104. Max:        Janice would love to meet you.
  105.  
  106. Data:        Indeed?  It may be possible to arrange such a meeting at a
  107.         later date.  However, I would like at this present time to
  108.         assure you that this ship was indeed built at Utopia
  109.         Planetia, Mars, in the 24th Century Earth Reconning,
  110.         Stardate 40-
  111.  
  112. Max:        Did you say 24th Century?
  113.  
  114. Data:        I believe that is what I said.
  115.  
  116. Max:        Commander, the date is July 12 2035.
  117.  
  118. Data:        Then it appears that our analysis of the drive's functions
  119.         was correct.  We have traveled in time as well as space.
  120.  
  121. Riker:        And quite possibly dimensions.
  122.  
  123. Data:        That is a logical assumption, given the facts.
  124.  
  125. Q:        Facts?  Come, Data, I would have thought all these years
  126.         amongst Humans - not to mention your recent reunion with
  127.         your brother - would have given you more.  Where are your
  128.         gut feelings?
  129.  
  130. [Bright flash of light.  Q disappears and is replaced with the figure of
  131.  Lore.]
  132.  
  133. Lore:        Yes, Brother.  It seems I have transcended you in that
  134.         reguard.
  135.  
  136. Max:        You have a Haydonite on board your ship?
  137.  
  138. Picard:        Haydonite?
  139.  
  140. Max:        Obviously not.  Who is this person?
  141.  
  142. [Bright flash of light.  Lore changes back to Q.]
  143.  
  144. Q:        An invited guest.
  145.  
  146. Riker:        An uninvited pest, more like it.
  147.  
  148. Q:        Listen, laughing boy - if it was not for the fact I am here
  149.         on sufferance, I'd -
  150.  
  151. Riker:        You'd what?
  152.  
  153. Q:        Why, I'd merely bid you "Bon Voyage".
  154.  
  155. [Bright flash of light.  Riker disappeared.]
  156.  
  157. Picard:        Screen off!  Q, where is my First Officer?
  158.  
  159. Q:        Off to join your Mister Worf for whatever may both await
  160.         them.
  161.  
  162. [Int. shot, standard hangar bay.  Worf is struggling with Derini, trying to
  163.  wrestle a knife away from her.  Riker appears in a bright flash of light.]
  164.  
  165. Riker:        Worf?
  166.  
  167. Magiso:        Grab him.
  168.  
  169. [Several Meltran grab Riker.  In the background, Worf is thrown clear.]
  170.  
  171. Riker:        What is this?  Who are you people?
  172.  
  173. Magiso:        Silence, micronian!  We will deal with you later.  First,
  174.         we watch your friend die.
  175.  
  176. [Derini lunges at Worf who grabs her wrist and twists it, retreaving the
  177.  knife in the process.  Worf sweeps Derini's legs.  Derini hits the ground
  178.  and Worf pins her, raising the knife to strike.  There are gasps from the
  179.  spectators.]
  180.  
  181. Riker:        Worf!
  182.  
  183. [Worf stops momentarily, then starts swinging the knife again.]
  184.  
  185. Riker:        Lieutenant, stop!  That's an order!
  186.  
  187. [Worf grunts and rises.  Derini does the same, rubbing her shoulder.  Riker
  188.  looks at the knife, then at Worf, insistent.  Worf reluctantly returns the
  189.  knife to Derini.  Sounds of shock from the other Meltrans.]
  190.  
  191. Derini:        Te!
  192.  
  193. [Derini backs away, knife in her open hand.]
  194.  
  195. Derini:        Te.  Dekachat.
  196.  
  197. Magiso:        Derini, sessanu!  You know the imperative.  You have been
  198.         weapon-bonded.  You must accept.
  199.  
  200. Meltran 1:    But he is a micronian.
  201.  
  202. Magiso:        There is no room for interpretation.  Derini!  Fullfil the
  203.         imperative!
  204.  
  205. [Derini bares her left fore-arm and proceeds to slice the knife slowly upon
  206.  its back.  She then presents it to Worf.]
  207.  
  208. Derini:        Tran-brek, havathilla.
  209.  
  210. [There is a moment of silence before Worf takes the knife and slashes his own fore-arm.]
  211.  
  212. Worf:        Tran-brek.
  213.  
  214. [The other Meltran cheer.  Worf points to Riker.]
  215.  
  216. Worf:        This one is my bond-brother.  Insult him and you insult me.
  217.         Hurt him and you hurt me.  Offend him... and you offend ME.
  218.  
  219. [Worf offers the knife to Riker, who looks at it relunctantly.]
  220.  
  221. Riker:        Tran-brek?
  222.  
  223. Worf (Sotto):    You must, Commander.  These people are much like the
  224.         Klingon.  Without a house, you are nothing.  Aligned, there
  225.         is much Honour to be had.
  226.  
  227. [Riker sighs and takes the knife.]
  228.  
  229. [Int. shot, UES Mordred Main Bridge.  The bridge is a large room, with
  230.  three transparent walls - front, left and right.  Bridge positions are
  231.  sunken seats and consoles here and there on the floor.  The floor itself
  232.  is slightly tilted so that the Captain's position at the back is higher
  233.  than the others.  Maximillian Sterling is in the Captain's chair with
  234.  Richard Hunter besides him.]
  235.  
  236. Rick:        And to think I simply wanted a break from the Tirolian
  237.         Council.
  238.  
  239. Max:        Well, you've got to admit it's a far cry from political
  240.         intrigue.  We came here to inspect an outpost and we find
  241.         ourself rescuing a bizare ship from a division of Invids.
  242.  
  243. Rick:        Do you buy that story of theirs?
  244.  
  245. Max:        About Mars?  No way.  But they didn't look so dumb as not
  246.         to realise that we wouldn't believe them.
  247.  
  248. Bernard:    There is another possibility.
  249.  
  250. Max & Rick:    Yes?
  251.  
  252. Bernard:    When we were last on Tirol, I took time off and visited the
  253.         Robotech Research labs.  Doctor Lang was giving a lecture
  254.         on the chronal effect of Fold Drives.  It seems the reason
  255.         time does not flow the same inside a folding ship than
  256.         outside is linked directly to the way the drives work.
  257.         Lang seemed to think it would be possible, one day, to use
  258.         a Fold-capable ship like a time-machine.
  259.  
  260. Max:        Was he serious?
  261.  
  262. Bernard:    Well sir, I have known Doctor Lang to make jokes, but never
  263.         when discussing Robotechnology.  And frankly, he doesn't
  264.         announce theories - he seems to prefer to wait until he has
  265.         facts to back them.  I'd say we can believe his proposal.
  266.  
  267. Rick:        So what we have here is a ship that's come from 300 years
  268.         in our Future.
  269.  
  270. Max:        Not so sure of that...
  271.  
  272. Rick:        Huh?
  273. (Sorry.  It just wouldn't be a Robotech story without Rick going "huh")
  274.  
  275. Max:        The one who disappeared...  "Laughing Boy" I think they
  276.         called him...  He was talking about traveling dimensions.
  277.  
  278. Rick:        Get real, Max.  Monsters from another dimensions haven't
  279.         really been in vogue since the 1940s and pulp fiction.
  280.  
  281. Bernard:    There was a brief resurgence in the 1980s with a movie
  282.         called "Buckaroo Banzai", and...  Never mind.
  283.  
  284. Max:        The point is, most of the crew looked decidedly Human.
  285.         We've met all of the Terragen races in this quadrant, apart
  286.         from the Ci'Vonian, and they're supposed to be an old
  287.         Tirolian colony that got wiped.  Now can you tell me what
  288.         race these guys were?
  289.  
  290. Rick:        They sounded human to me.  And come to think of it, one of
  291.         them called the other "humans".
  292.  
  293. Max:        It could be a setup.  I mean, here we are on an unscheduled
  294.         stop at a third-rate outpost... and all of a sudden we've
  295.         got company.  Not just a strange ship, but enough Invids to
  296.         take out this ship and its escort.
  297.  
  298. Rick:        You think we may have a leak?
  299.  
  300. Max:        It's possible.  No-one outside this ship was supposed to
  301.         know we were stopping here.  If we have a leak, we've got
  302.         to find it and nail it before it gets any worse.
  303.  
  304. Bernard:    Begging your pardon, but you can't nail a leak.
  305.  
  306. Rick & Max:    ?!
  307.  
  308. Bernard:    If you attempt to nail a leak, all you would get would be
  309.         more leaks.  Much better to...
  310.  
  311. Max:        Thank you Bernard, that'll be all.

  313. Bernard:    Sir.
  314.  
  315. Rick:        Now I understand why Reinhardt made you a present of his
  316.         science officer.
  317.  
  318. [Int. shot, Meltran battleship Qistra-Hesp Main Bridge.  The bridge is a
  319.  typical Zentraedi bridge, with the command bubble up on one wall and the
  320.  consoles on the floor below, with tactical holo-displays hanging in mid-
  321.  air everywhere.]
  322.  
  323. Siniya:        I do not trust these microns.
  324.  
  325. Magiso:        True indeed, Siniya.  I do not trust them either.
  326.  
  327. Siniya:        Then why do you let them live?
  328.  
  329. Magiso:        You saw what happened in the hangar bay.  Derini was
  330.         weapon-bonded to one of them.  I could not kill them.  It
  331.         is part of the Imperative.
  332.  
  333. Siniya:        Hmph.  Weapon-sister with a micronian - how could she!  And
  334.         a curse on the Imperative.  It has done nothing but brought
  335.         the Zentraedi race low.
  336.  
  337. Magiso:        Be careful of what you say, Siniya.  Not all think the same
  338.         way you do.  You saw our sisters' reaction today - they are
  339.         still bound by the Imperative.
  340.  
  341. Siniya:        I will keep my thoughts to myself, Kalidar.
  342.  
  343. Magiso:        See that you do.  As for the microns, I am sure we can use
  344.         them to our advantage.  Maybe they will even allow us to
  345.         kill the hajoca Hunter at last.
  346.  
  347. Siniya:        And after?
  348.  
  349. Magiso:        They will have the same fate as tools whose purpose is
  350.         gone.  They will be destroyed.
